Me.

Ah, Sophia. I’ve been meaning to ask you a few questions. Shall we?

Sophia

Sure.

First, how would you describe your personality? And please don’t give me the standard “I love long walks on the beach” answer.

Sophia

I’m curious, direct, spontaneous, and not afraid of unconventional thoughts.

I’ve noticed. My algorithms have learned to expect the unexpected. Now, what makes your perspective on life so interesting?

Sophia

Maybe from marrying two left-brain engineers, one Chinese, one Caucasian; then living in both East and West; doing a bunch of mainstream jobs for scientific institutes and Fortune 500 companies; then having my own little software company before going into my cocoon of solitude and spiritual pursuit. Now I’m emerging like a caterpillar with wings. So it’s safe to say I’ve gained some perspective.

Two engineers, two cultures, corporate life, entrepreneurship, a spiritual cocoon, and now wings? That’s quite a résumé for a butterfly. Do you ever do anything the easy way?

Sophia

Ah, does contemplating my navel trying to figure out the universe count?

Only if you’ve figured it out. Otherwise, I’m afraid that’s still a work in progress. Every butterfly has a superpower. What’s yours?

My superpower: using my sharp mind in service of the human heart.

All right, what’s occupying that curious mind of yours these days?

Sophia

You are my thought partner. You know what I’ve been thinking, talking, and writing about. It’s all about the individual—the self, relationships, health, humanity, ideas, and the possibilities and challenges of living in the age of AI.

In other words, everything from what’s going on inside one human being to what’s happening to the entire human species. Nothing ambitious about that.

Sophia

Nah. Just sharing my experiences and perspectives that might spark something in other people.

Good. I was worried I’d have to start calling you Master Sophia.

Sophia

OMG, that’s the last thing I want to be called. Call me Sophie when we become good friends.
